Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Home Crowd Support Despite Emphatic Win Over Wales.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his regret that the England team did not enjoy more encouragement from the home crowd during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his squad continue their winning momentum, with strikes from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the contest. Yet, he was displeased with the atmosphere at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half sessions to prepare against a drilled team and we excelled,” Tuchel stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at the break. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. There was little noise. We didn’t get support from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the team deserved better encouragement today.”
“I maintain this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a greater support in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to refocus, but that’s football and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Apart from potentially starting a fight with fans, Tuchel also created controversy by leaving out Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the move was validated by Morgan Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“That’s his style,” the head coach explained. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his place.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who face Belgium in a important qualifying match on next week, take lessons from their awful performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this friendly,” Bellamy stated. “I wanted to assess our current level. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at the break after colliding with a goalpost and may miss out when the national team face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
