Exploring an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is actually a turd striving to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. Across numerous stages, you'll face boss fights and visit a store to purchase customizations for your fecal avatar.
Plan your movements with caution, since one error forces starting over. Bounce using air pockets to launch the poop upward, cross crumbling surfaces, and interact with switches to reveal new areas. Collect coins and use them on tougher stages as the action gets crazy.
Graphically, the game boasts vibrant environments and a killer music score. The retro visual style of shifting geometric shapes may remind gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to recall similar titles where you control a piece of feces, gaming often featured toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft throwables from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as soil enrichment. And of course, such content shows up heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, such as winning at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the complete version set to launch on PC this November.
